GCSE results 2017

We are delighted to have another set of outstanding results.

In 2017, 82% of students have achieved the key benchmark of achieving grade 4 and above in both English and mathematics.

This year there will be a new key measure in the performance tables, the percentage of students achieving
grade 5 and above in both English and mathematics. A stunning 68% of our students achieved this benchmark.

Achievement in the subjects that make up the English Baccalaureate was outstanding, with 49% of students gaining passes at grade 4/grade C or better in all of English, mathematics, two sciences, a language and a humanity.  The national average for this measure in 2016 was only 24%, so students are leaving Gillotts exceptionally well prepared in the ‘facilitating subjects’ that are highly valued by the Russell Group universities.  26% of students gained a grade 7 or better in English Language and 33% in mathematics.  83% of students achieved A*-C in English Language, 81% in English Literature and 92% in mathematics.  In each of biology, chemistry, physics, history, geography, over 33% of grades were A* or A.

Across the board, our most able students achieved exceptionally well. 31% achieved five or more A* and A grades, and 17% of students achieved eight or more passes at grades A* or A.

Over recent years, we have seen a marked and consistent improvement in results at Gillotts and we are delighted with this year’s results, the first in which English and mathematics have been awarded under the new
9-1 GCSEs.  These results will confirm us as one of the consistently best performing schools in Oxfordshire.  This is a consequence of the commitment and hard work of the students and staff.  We are very proud of all that the students have achieved and would also like to recognise all the support that students have received from their families.  These results come about through successful collaboration between student, teachers and parents.
