Open days

We are planning for our open events in 2021 to be live.  Please note that this could change at short notice if we have a COVID outbreak – please check the website before attending.

Open Evening is Thursday 23 September, 6.00 – 8.15pm., and is confirmed as a live event.

Open Day is Tuesday 28 September, 9.15am – 12pm.

There is no need to book for either event. However we ask for your understanding if you cannot access particular areas of the school immediately as we will need to avoid over-crowding.

Risk mitigations for open evening and open day:

We prefer just one adult from each family, plus only children in Years 5 and 6.
All adult visitors are requested to wear face coverings, unless exempt.
All visitors should socially distance from school staff.
Please do not attend if you have any symptoms of COVID. We would appreciate adult visitors to do a lateral flow test before attending.
Note we will not be able to support social distancing between visitors  – we will post a pre-recorded version of the Headteacher’s speech on the website if you prefer to view remotely.

Open evening risk mitigations: (Thursday 23 September 2021, 6 – 8.15pm)

No social distancing between visitors in the Hall.
Note that classroom displays may not be as interactive as normal because of the need to share equipment safely.
Rooms will be as well ventilated as possible.
Hand sanitiser will be available in all classrooms.
Student guides will be located outdoors only.
We will have an onsite cleaner for frequently touched areas, eg door handles

Open day risk mitigations: (Tuesday 28 September 2021, 9.15am – 12pm)

No live Headteacher talk – but will be available in Hall to answer questions.
Maximum of 4 visitors per guide – guides will not enter classrooms, just visitors.

If restrictions mean live events cannot go ahead, we will again offer live webinars – on Thursday 23 September (7pm) and Tuesday 28 September (10am).

We understand that some will not be able to visit at this time or will not feel comfortable to.  You can therefore view a recorded version of the Headteacher’s talk here.  You can also hear three of our Year 7 students talking about being new, lessons and clubs.  Finally you can hear the perspectives of our Head Students, Abi, Roman and Ben.

In 2020, we offered live webinars on Thursday 24 September (evening) and Tuesday 29 September (during the school day).  You can view the recording of Thursday’s webinar here.  The webinar lasts approximately one hour: Headteacher’s speech (15 minutes),  Chair of Governors’ speech (3 minutes), questions and answers (30 minutes), SENDCo’s presentation (15 minutes).

To add to the virtual experience, we created a suite of online materials.

You can view our online prospectus here.

You can download a copy of our prospectus information from this page, and there is also more information about our support for students with special educational needs.

Our Head Students have made a movie to give you a tour of the subjects we teach at Gillotts.  Our Assistant Headteacher explains our approach to Teaching and Learning.

You can hear three of our Year 8 students talking about being new, Covid changes and lessons at Gillotts.

The House Captains will tell you more about the pastoral support and the Sports Captains – well, they will tell you about sport!

You can have a virtual tour of the site, including a drone flyover recorded by one of our Year 11 students.  You can also have virtual tours of Art and Science – always highlights of a ‘real’ visit.
