Special educational needs and disability

A new national approach to special educational needs (SEN) provision has been in place since September 2014.  The SEN Code of Practice covers the 0-25 age range and there is a clearer focus on the views of young people and on their role in decision making. There is also an emphasis on collaboration between education, health services and social care.  The aim is to provide support that allows students with SEN to succeed in their education and to make a successful transition to adulthood.  Oxfordshire County Council has developed a handbook entitled ‘Identifying and supporting Special Educational Needs in Oxfordshire schools and settings’ and we follow this guidance at Gillotts.  Our practice is also described in our SEN Policy.

As our local authority, Oxfordshire County Council also publishes a local offer, setting out in one place information about the provision that is available for young people in our area.  You can find more information here.
